Impact of catchment properties on aquatic chemistry in the rivers of Latvia
2010
The relationships between land use characteristics and aquatic chemistry (nutrient concentrations, major inorganic ions and indicators of organic matter concentrations) were analyzed to determine factors controlling the runoff of dissolved substances, spatial variability of water chemical composition and possible impacts of pollution sources in Latvia. Groups of factors were found to determine the variability of nutrient, organic matter and major inorganic ions concentrations. Bedrock geology and weathering of soil minerals affect the concentrations of inorganic ions, but the nature of the relationships between nutrient concentrations and those of land use are good indicators of human impac…
Releasing rates of inorganic ions in lichens monitored by capillary zone electrophoresis as indicators of atmospheric pollution
2000
Abstract The releasing rates of inorganic ions in lichens when a thallus sample is sonicated under water, were studied. Ramalina farinacea samples taken from two locations exposed to atmospheric pollution sources at Els Ports (Castellon, Spain), and from three control locations, were used. Samples without visual symptoms of injuries were sonicated from 3 to 6 successive 10-min periods while renewing the water layer in between. Experiments with successive 2-min-sonication periods were also performed. The extracts were analysed by capillary zone electrophoresis, and K + , NH 4 + , Na + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , Cl − , SO 4 2− and NO 3 − were detected. The apparently undamaged lichens sampled at locat…
Chromatographie an Carboxyl-Papier
1952
Chromatographische Untersuchungen mit Filtrierpapieren mit einem Carboxyl-Gehalt von 1 bis 4% gaben sowohl bei Aminosauren als auch bei Aminen und anorganischen lonen aussichtsreiche Ergebnisse. Chromatography with Carboxyl Paper Chromatographic investigations with filter papers of a carboxyl content of 1 to 4% showed promising results with amino acids as well as amines and inorganic ions.
Hybrid materials from organic polymers and inorganic salts
1994
The prepaparation of amorphous, homogeneous blends of zwitterionic polymers and transition metal salts was investigated. Homogeneous miscibility was achieved in many cases up to equimolar amounts of salt, depending on the anion and cation chosen. Various analytical techniques point to a solid state solution of the inorganic ions in the polymer matrix.
A study of major and trace element accumulation in humic acids
2015
It has been widely studied recent as well as historic accumulation of elements in peat profiles depending on intensity of anthropogenic pollution and thereby peat profiles serve as archives for research of environmental change. Peat ability to accumulate major and trace elements depends on the character of element supply, potency of metal ions to bind functionalities in the peat structure, pH reaction, oxygen presence, presence of complexing compounds, inorganic ions and many other factors. The aim of this study is to assign major and trace element distribution in humic acids (HA) for two well characterized ombrotrophic peat profiles of Eipurs and Dzelve Bog and analyse factors affecting el…
